Game update loops

Work on the loop that keeps the game moving. Mythic Loop gives timing logic, update steps and pause behavior a focused place in your project workflow.

Make timing changes with the whole loop in view

A timing bug can appear far from the line that causes it. Mythic Loop is a Windows coding workspace where you can examine update logic with a connected AI model while keeping the project and its requirements together. Begin with what changes on screen and the sequence of actions that makes it happen.

The fixed-step simulation example is one way to frame that investigation. It separates elapsed frame time from simulation updates and limits the number of steps. Use it as a prompt to inspect your own loop, including pause handling and accumulated time; it is not a simulation engine supplied by the application.

Ask for a proposed change that explains the handling of a long frame as well as normal operation. Review what happens to leftover time, where state changes occur and which assumptions belong to rendering. Run the project's tests and exercise the relevant interactions in its runtime before concluding that the timing behavior is correct.

Mythic Loop supports OpenAI-compatible or Anthropic endpoints, using credentials when necessary. An unrestricted AI model can be selected if your endpoint offers one. Check the server and model for available tools, context capacity and response restrictions; the workspace does not remove those limits or replace your review of the simulation change.

Questions for a simulation change

What evidence helps explain an intermittent timing problem?

Record the actions, observed motion and circumstances such as resuming after a pause. Include the update loop and the relevant state changes. A concrete sequence is more useful than asking the assistant to make motion smoother.

Does the example decide how my game should catch up?

No. Its step limit illustrates a boundary you need to choose for your project. Decide what should happen to accumulated time after a long frame and ask the assistant to explain the consequences of its proposal.

Should rendering and simulation be changed together?

Change both only when the evidence requires it. Ask the model to identify their relationship first, then review whether each edit addresses the reported behavior. Keep unrelated visual adjustments out of a timing correction.

Which checks matter after a pause-handling edit?

Exercise pause, resume and an unusually long frame, as well as ordinary updates. Compare the resulting state with the intended rules and run existing regression tests. A plausible loop alone does not establish that gameplay is preserved.
